Carmen Electra: What You Don't Know About the Woman Who Has It All!
from: dotnewsmagazine.com

Carmen Electra has a charmed life. Born Tara Leigh Patrick and christened with her professional name by none other than the "Purple Rain" man himself, Prince, Electra has a pack of movies coming out this year with Scary Movie 4 first up in April. She is also the new face of Max Factor cosmetics, with a bodacious body that is craved by men and women alike. Add to that her rock hunk husband Dave Navarro--who even she admits is more romantic than herself. Life is just great for Electra!

Interviewed during a break from her dance rehearsal for her Max Factor launch, Electra spoke candidly.

"We're an open book," she admits. "I think that's just because Dave and I are really open and honest people. We don't have much to hide. And if we did something we thought we should hide, I just don't think we would hide it."

But Electra stops at inviting cameras into their bedroom. "We do value our privacy. That's where we would draw the line."

Can you believe the usually scantily clad Carmen used to be shy? "Yes! I was painfully shy. Painfully shy," Electra repeats. "I wouldn't even change clothes in front of my mom."

Her dancing brought her out of her demure shell. "When I started really dancing sexy, in hot pants and bras--I was cool with that," she remembers. "But I still wouldn't change in front of the girls. I was still really shy about it. Then, once I did Playboy; you kind of have to get over it. It's weird. Once you cross that line, I was fine with it. Now you can't keep clothes on me."

Electra was surprised to be called a lesbian icon. "Am I?" she questioned. "I love it! I love it! I love it! That's awesome!" Even if she didn't know she is a lesbian icon, she's still booked to perform with the Bombshell Babies at the Dinah Shore Weekend in Palm Springs, so obviously somewhere a lot of lesbians must like her!

Could her lesbian fan base come from this two-time Playmate's sizzling moves as a former Pussycat Doll? She did after all perform as a Pussycat for about two years, but these days Electra doesn't think of the Pussycat Dolls as competitors of the Bombshell Babies. "They're completely different, totally different." In her own words she describes the Bombshell Babies as, "old striptease, sort of cabaret dancing, mixed with a little hip-hop and a little rock." According to this former Pussycat, her new venture "has a little modern twist to it."

Maybe her lesbian appeal is fanned by Electra's seductive exercise routines in her aerobic workout DVDs, Carmen Electra's Aerobic Striptease Collection, released in 2003. "They have gone through the roof, they've done so well. They've gone beyond what we ever expected," she explained.

The collection was tailored to Electra's liking. "It's about the dance. And about the striptease and the lap dance being sexy." The videos, however, don't include the recent fitness craze: pole dancing. "That's the only thing that's not in it. I'm not good at pole dancing," admits Electra. "I suck at it. I need to take some lessons."

Electra raves about her DVDs, "I'm excited because I felt it was a chance for me to connect with women. My career has always been so geared toward men. This was part of the new phase of my life."

Her exciting kissing scene with Amy Smart in Starsky & Hutch fueled both lesbian and heterosexual fantasies alike. It also won the two women an MTV Movie Award for Best Kiss!

Asked if there was a particular woman who she would like a chance to connect with--on screen that is--Electra quickly replied, "JOAN JETT. I've had a little girl crush on JOAN JETT since I was eight. Remember that video where she comes out with a trench coat on and she opens up the trench coat and she's wearing a bikini and then she's rocking out with a guitar? She's hot!"

Onto more serious subjects, Electra commented on the current Until There's A Cure public service announcements that she and Dave appear in. They both became involved due to personal losses. "I actually have two friends that passed away from AIDS, and it's always been near and dear to my heart because of their loss. When we found out about Until There's A Cure, we were really excited to do anything we could to help."

Along with Us Weekly editor Ken Baker, Electra co-founded, "Head to Hollywood," a charity for brain tumor survivors. She lost her mom to a malignant brain tumor in 1998. "Whenever you can connect to the public, and if you are in the public eye, you do anything you can do to help," Electra explained.

Electra's heart is inclusive enough for everyone. "I really love and embrace people who feel comfortable enough to be themselves. So I have gay friends; I have straight friends. I just admire people that are like, 'You know what? This is who I am. This is my lifestyle.' People who are proud of who they are. I admire these men and women for standing up and doing what makes them happy."

On the issue of gay marriage, Electra maintains, "You know what? People should be able to marry whomever they want to marry. I feel like it's none of my business if a man wants to marry another man. You only live once, and people should have that right."

The beauteous Electra also has strong opinions on young girls getting plastic surgery. "I think they should wait. I just feel like that can be bad when girls run out and get things done at such a young age without really thinking it through. Gosh, so many people are addicted to it. I think that's bad. I really do. A little therapy could help."

As for grown-ups? "There's nothing wrong if you're getting older and you want a little something here and a little something there to make you feel better. Then great! I say, go for it!"

As for Electra going under the knife herself? "Definitely open to it, but we'll have to cross that bridge when we get there. I really don't want to look that far ahead. Maybe there'll be a pill by then."

A welcome vision on red carpets, Electra dresses according to her moods. "The old me was out to shock. Whatever crazy dress I found, I'd wear it. Now I'm more into fashion than into shocking. I like to wear gowns and pretty dresses." But Electra doesn't coordinate outfits with her husband Dave. "No. We just do our own thing and hope that it looks okay together."

For the woman who has it all and deserves to have it all, her biggest concern is in fact quite small. "People think I'm really tall and I'm not," she explained. "People think that I'm at least 5'8" and I'm 5'3." Yeah, I'm a shrimp. Big things come in little packages," Electra concluded.
