JOAN JETT, Rockin' set for Ag Park on July 1
from: The Columbus Online Community - Columbus Telegram

COLUMBUS - The bands have been confirmed and the date has been set for Rockin' on the Racetrack, renamed from Rockin' on the Runway because of its new location.

Headlining the show will be JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS, a women's band that peaked in the '80s and released several top ten hits including "I Love Rock and Roll," which reached number one, and Tesla, a group from the late '80s and '90s whose hits included "Love Song" and "Heaven's Trail".

Damon Vogt of Creston, event founder and promoter, said Rockin' on the Racetrack will be held as a major event of the city-wide Sesquicentennial celebration.

The annual rock music festival will move from the Columbus Municipal Airport to Agriculture Park.

The fifth-year event will be held on Saturday, July 1, Vogt said.

"With nearly 6,000 people at last years event, and more expected at this year's event, we needed to move to a facility better equipped to handle large crowds," Vogt said. "We appreciated the help of the airport in getting this event off the ground, no pun intended, but for the sake of parking, accommodating large crowds and time management we feel that Ag Park will be a great home for this event."

Vogt said promoters are designing a concert area that will be unique to Rockin' on the Racetrack, he said.

Mitch Streit, Hy-Vee store director, said a limited number of tickets will be available soon after the new store opens Tuesday.

"Tickets will go on sale shortly after we open our doors next week," Streit said. "We have 1,000 tickets available to us," and some of those will be given away during store promotions.

He said the price of the tickets for those who purchase early will be $25, the price will increase to $30 after an initial promotion price is offered and the cost for a ticket will raise to $35 the week of the show, so there is an advantage to buy early.

The annual festival presented by Hy-Vee Food Stores and Three Eagles Communications will begin at 4 p.m.
