Designer Todd Oldham's New HGTV Series Premieres Monday - Friday, September 26-30 at 8:00 P.M. ET/PT With Bid To Support Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita Relief Efforts

Online Charity Auction of Home Decor Items by Oldham and Celebrity Guests To Benefit the American Red Cross

KNOXVILLE, Tenn., Sept. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- When HGTV's special five-part series, Todd Oldham's Handmade Modern, premieres Monday-Friday, September 26-30 at 8:00 p.m., ET/PT, viewers not only will get colorful and practical decor ideas inspired by mid-century modern design, they also will get a chance to help others when they bid online with eBay Giving Works for five items made by the renowned designer and celebrities who appear on the show.

The online charity auction to support the American Red Cross begins Monday, September 26 at 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT and runs through Thursday, October 6 at 5:00 p.m. ET/2:00 p.m. PT. Viewers can bid on Sweet Dreams Pillowcases by Susan Sarandon; String Art by Elizabeth Berkley; a Black Vinyl Ottoman by JOAN JETT; a Tiny Tableau Table by Amy Sedaris; and a Leaf Stencil Painting by Jeffrey Tambor. Eighty-percent of the winning bid for each item will go to support American Red Cross Hurricane Katrina and Hurricane Rita relief efforts.

An ambitious half-hour decor series produced by New York shingle Co.Op, Todd Oldham's Handmade Modern is based on the renowned designer's highly-acclaimed book, Handmade Modern: Mid-Century Inspired Projects for Your Home (Regan/HarperCollins). For five consecutive nights, Oldham will show viewers how anyone can create home accessories and furnishings using the elements of modern design.

"Todd's extraordinary designs, reminiscent of the classic approaches of the mid-century, exemplify accessibility and livability, so it is particularly appropriate that we list the items from his show to help victims of the recent hurricanes rebuild their homes and their lives," said Michael Dingley, senior vice president, programming and content strategy. "We are grateful that Todd and each of the participating celebrities are lending their support to this important effort."

During the series, the arbiter of home couture will put new twists on many of the 52 projects featured in his book. Each episode will focus on one of five themes: Pattern, Layers, Color, Texture, and Form & Function. The shows will offer unique ideas for everything from test tube vase gardens to tiny tableaux tables, woven ribbon pillows and ring-stitched lap blankets. More challenging projects will include a vinyl ottoman, illuminated wood tile headboard, planter bench and knockout room divider. In addition, each show will feature essay segments and pop-up facts about particular design styles, movements or notable designers of the period, including George Nelson, Russel Wright, Charles and Ray Eames or Isamu Noguchi. Todd is particularly excited to have a soundtrack provided by Bay Area musician Tommy Guerrero.

All of the projects will incorporate the tried-and-true principles and techniques that have guided designers for some 80 years, but the show will focus on those icons revered by Oldham, including artist Charles Harper, textile designer Alexander Girard and architect and designer Florence Knoll.

"I was delighted to join with HGTV to bring the series Todd Oldham's Handmade Modern to life," said Oldham. "I always wanted to find a way to demonstrate the projects in detail and celebrate the work of my design heroes. However, all this is even more gratifying because we are placing up for bid the celebrity projects to help the many people whose lives have been impacted during the devastating hurricane season."
