JOAN JETT still rocking

JOAN JETT still loves rock 'n' roll and she can still play it.

Jett and her band The BLACKHEARTS became one of the top acts in the early '80s thanks to their No. 1 hit "I Love Rock 'n' Roll." Two decades later, the group is still touring and visits the Mohegan Sun Wolf Den Sunday for a free 7 p.m. concert.

"I Love Rock 'n' Roll" was not only the No. 1 song for two months, but became the No. 28 Billboard hit of all time. It came after more than 20 labels rejected Jett.

The song helped Jett become a star. It led her to a big screen job starring in the film "Light of Day" with Michael J. Fox. The movie didn't exactly inspire critics, but Jett performed better on screen than some of today's music stars who attempt acting.

Jett is a female musician who has plays rock music as hard as her male counterparts. She credibly covered classic tunes such as "Dirty Deeds," "I Hate Myself For Loving You" and "Crimson and Clover."

A few years ago, Jett returned to acting, only this time to the stage where she received positive reviews in the revival of "The Rocky Horror Picture Show."

Jett continues to control her career. She's released albums independently, including last year's album "Naked." The CD was Jett's first new studio release in a decade.
