The storied career of Joan Jett began with a young girl who had a dream to play rock and roll music. She quickly became a rock star and has since lent her diverse talents to movies, TV, video, and finally, the Great White Way.

Joan Jett, the actress, made her Broadway musical theater debut in The Rocky Horror Show in 2000. It was not her first success in the historic New York theater district, however. Joan Jett, the musician, sold out an extended engagement at Broadway's Lunt-Fontanne Theater several years before.

While still in her early teens, Joan, often called the girl Elvis, founded the seminal all-girl rock group The Runaways. Their hits, which included Cherry Bomb, made then an international sensation. Her next group, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, sold millions of albums, and went on to become a long-time staple on the Top 10 charts. They also claim the 28th most popular song of all time, I Love Rock 'n' Roll, which was Number 1 on the Billboard charts for 8 weeks. It was sweet success for Jett since 23 major record labels originally refused to give her a deal.

Joan Jett's songs are like the background music of our lives, and can be heard not only on radio, but also in scores of movies and television programs as well. Last year her work was featured prominently in the hit films Shrek and Charlie's Angels, among others.

Joan's film credits include a starring role in Paul Schrader's Light of Day, with Michael J. Fox, Jason Miller, Gena Rowlands, and Michael McKean. She also appeared in Boogie Boy, an independent film by Pulp Fiction alums Craig Hamann and Roger Avary. Her bad guy credits include playing an evil immortal in the Highlander television series, and a role as a contract killer in which she got to fight a battle to the death with legendary martial artist Chuck Norris. Her new movie, The Sweet Life, will be out this fall.

Joan's many innovative music videos are a staple of both MTV and VH-1.

This past season Joan Jett was asked by the WNBA's New York Liberty basketball team to record the team's anthem. Jett continues to support women's college and professional sports.

No stranger to men's sports, Jett sang the National Anthem at Camden Yards at the request of friend Cal Ripkin Jr. on the night he tied Lou Gehrig's record for consecutive game played. Jett also took part in the historic ceremony honoring Ripkin, which she attended with the President and Vice President of the United States. Joan has been asked by ESPN's the X-Games to create or contribute music to all the Games since their inception.

Aside from being one of the most durable live concert attractions in the world of rock, Joan Jett was the first female rock recording artist to own her own record label. She has inspired countless young women to pick up a guitar and her accomplishments have set a standard for women in the entertainment industry.
